Arvind Sooknanan has been a member of Fountain House Bronx since July 2018. He is an advocate and community organizer who helped elect NYS Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar as the first South Asian woman in New York public office. Arvind is currently a member of the Board of Directors of and recently led as Executive Director at Indo-Caribbean Alliance, the first nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to supporting the empowerment of Indo-Caribbeans. Arvind attributes his success to his time at Fountain House, where his mental health recovery was aided by the community, which he calls a form of therapy.
He has traveled internationally to promote social practice and continues to use his story to advocate for people living with serious mental illness across the country.
Arvind is a lifelong New Yorker with a real love and dedication to his city.
