James Hollywood, LCSW, works for Samaritan Daytop Village as Vice President of Residential and Recovery Services and oversees the organization’s 11 residential substance use treatment programs with 750 beds and serving 3,000 clients each year; supervises the delivery of supportive services to single adults and families living in 470 apartment units, and supports recovery services that are provided in two Recovery Centers in NYC that provide community based supports for individual, families and communities. Mr. Hollywood has more than 35 years of experience in substance use, mental health, and homeless services.
In his previous role as Assistant Vice President, Mr. Hollywood worked to develop the treatment staff's skills in delivering motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapies. He also worked on expanding Samaritan Daytop Village’s use of medically assisted recovery and withdrawal management. In 2013, Hollywood was honored with the Commissioner’s Service Award for Treatment by the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services.
Before joining Samaritan, Mr. Hollywood worked at Palladia, a New York City-based social service agency, where he successfully implemented enhancements to address co-occurring mental health and substance use. Mr. Hollywood helped develop "Let's Get Organized," a program that helps clients improve their organization and time management skills to facilitate successful re-entry into community life. This intervention was recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality as an innovative practice.
