Dr. Adriane Van Zwoll has worked in the school-based health care field at the local, state, and national levels since 2011. As a clinical social worker and manager of behavioral health services at a local SBHC, she provided direct clinical services and expanded behavioral health programming, including the introduction of alternatives to suspension programs and the creation of a calm room. She also served on the Illinois School-Based Health Alliance Steering Committee for several years.
She is deeply passionate about working with adolescents and expanding access to mental health care. Dr. Van Zwoll joined the School-Based Health Alliance in 2023, where she currently oversees consulting, the Bureau of Primary Health Care portfolio, all mental health–related initiatives, and work addressing food security in SBHCs. In addition to her national role, she continues to practice locally as a clinical social worker, working part-time in a Level 1 trauma center emergency room with adults and at a children’s hospital.
Dr. Van Zwoll earned her Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University (2006), a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan (2007), and a Master of Jurisprudence in Children’s Law & Policy from Loyola University Chicago (2014). She also holds a certificate in School Discipline Reform from Loyola University Chicago (2019) and completed her PhD in Social Work at Loyola University Chicago (2025).
