Dr. Eleni Romano is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry with the Behavioral Health and Wellness Program (BHWP) in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Anschutz Medical Campus. Dr. Romano is a licensed psychologist and board certified in Clinical Health Psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology. Her career has focused on providing evidence based treatment to military Veterans for tobacco use, persistent pain, adjustment to medical illness, and health behavior change. She has extensive experience in program development and health system transformation aimed at improving access to high quality, person centered, and culturally responsive care.
Dr. Romano has over 10 years of experience teaching person centered communication strategies, including Motivational Interviewing, to learners across multiple disciplines. Her primary research interests include the dissemination of real world, innovative, and effective programs that address gaps in care for tobacco use, persistent pain, and other health behaviors.
Dr. Romano received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2013 from Seattle Pacific University. She completed her psychology internship at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center (Health Psychology Track) and her postdoctoral residency at the San Francisco VA Medical Center (Primary Care and Behavioral Medicine Track). Before joining BHWP, she worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs for 12 years.
