Joe Feldman is the founder and president of non-profit Cover My Mental Health. His advocacy for mental healthcare access has included a previous board role with Kennedy Forum Illinois and current appointment as a consumer representative to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
Feldman developed Cover My Mental Health based on his own success overcoming insurance obstacles, with input from leading litigators, appeals experts, clinicians, insurance regulators, and former insurance industry insiders.
Feldman was the lead author of a 2021 article in the Journal of Psychiatric Practice on medical necessity letters and has made presentations across the country to clinicians, advocacy groups, parents, and community groups towards improving access to mental health and substance use disorder care.
Feldman’s work has been featured in the Illinois Psychiatric Society newsletter, Psychology Today, ProPublica, Seattle Times, and MindSite News; in invited guest blogs hosted by Mental Health America and Wendell Potter; on numerous podcasts, on NBC News, and broadcast news in Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Michigan. Feldman also serves on the board of Thresholds (a Chicago-based firm providing support to those living with mental illness).
