Maria has been serving the community with the McCall Center since 1997. As part of the prevention team, she developed a parent education program that has been replicated in multiple communities throughout the state. Maria was a member of the CT design team for the current Triple P parenting education program through the CT Department of Children and Families. Maria worked with children, adolescents and families to increase their capacity to cope with challenging life situations and make positive life changes. She facilitated programs at the community level through coalitions of key stakeholders to address issues such as underage drinking and substance abuse.
Maria earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Springfield College and a Master's degree in social work at UCONN. Originally from Torrington, she is deeply committed to Litchfield County and serves as a co-chair on The Litchfield County Opiate Task Force, a member of the Torrington/Winsted Rotary Club, member of the Board of Corporators of the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, a volunteer and board member with the Winchester Youth Service Bureau and a volunteer for the Canton Youth Service Bureau and the United Way. Maria became the agency's Executive Director in December of 2013.
