Supporting someone after the loss of a loved one to suicide can be challenging, and many individuals struggle with knowing what to say-or fear of saying the wrong thing. As a result, they may avoid reaching out or unintentionally cause further pain. This presentation explores practical and compassionate "dos and don'ts" of offering support, grounded in the lived experience of suicide loss survivors. Attendees will gain insights into meaningful ways to be present and helpful during a deeply vulnerable time.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will identify practical "dos and don'ts" for providing compassionate support to someone grieving a suicide loss.
Attendees will demonstrate confidence in engaging with suicide loss survivors through the use of supportive language and grief informed communication practices.
Attendees will be able to implement these "dos and don'ts" when speaking with suicide loss survivors in their personal or professional lives.
