Poster 14 - First Impressions that Last: Evaluating Orientation and Onboarding in the CCBHC Model

Effective onboarding is a critical yet often overlooked driver of workforce stability in non-profit behavioral health organizations. This presentation shares results from a mixed-methods evaluation of onboarding practices at a New York State CCBHC, examining effects on staff integration, job satisfaction, and retention. Through analysis of policies, employee surveys, focus groups, interviews with staff and leadership, and performance indicators, we identified strategies that strengthen engagement and reduce early turnover. Findings highlight best practices that promote retention and resilience. The presentation offers actionable insights for organizations seeking to optimize onboarding and build a committed, sustainable, and effective workforce.
